3 questions for: Olaf Elderenbosch (managing director elho)
29 Aug 2019

The declared goal of elho is for people to surround themselves with as much greenery as possible. For 55 years now, the Dutch family business has been passionately dedicated to the production of flower pots.
Whether for the home, the balcony, the terrace or the garden – elho offers a wide range of planters for every area of life. They are all made of high-quality synthetics, stable and light in weight as well as frost- and UV-resistant. When developing new collections, the company attaches great importance to functionality and design. And when it comes to production, eco-friendliness is very much in focus.
At this year's spoga+gafa, elho will also be presenting its new products centrally in Hall 10.1. In the run-up to the fair, we spoke with Managing Director Olaf Elderenbosch.
Surface structures, colours and shapes – planters for the living area are constantly being further developed, and each year, new designs are launched. What are the current market trends?
Elderenbosch: Right now, smart solutions are up-and-coming, such as water care to keep plants happy and healthy. Also in the spotlight: vertical gardening, designs based on organic shapes or grow lights so plants get enough light even in the darker areas of a home.
And what new products does your company have in its range for the outdoor sector?
Elderenbosch: For example, our new products include solutions such as the modern Greenville balcony hangers, an extension of the Greenville family which was very successfully launched last season. We also have the Corsica vertical forest, a solution that works on both the balcony and the wall in order to bring even more nature into your home. There is also the veggie wall, an all-in-one solution with a trellis for climbing vegetables, as well as for fruits and flowers. Another new product is the leaf light care, a catchy grow light for just that little bit of extra attention, especially for plants that don’t get enough light.
The topic of sustainability is currently on everyone's lips. elho has been using recycled materials in the production of its pots for a long time. For example, your Greenville collection is completely new. Can you tell us something about this and about your company's commitment to the environment?
Elderenbosch: At elho, we create with nature in mind because nature makes you happy and healthy and gives you a boost of energy – and we see it as our responsibility to help preserve it.
That’s why our production process is 100 % powered by wind energy from our own wind turbine, located next to our factory and office in Tilburg, the Netherlands.Last year we recycled 5,600,000 kilo of waste into beautiful pots, and 70 % of our materials is made of recycled plastic.
And last but not least, we are proud of our 2 million bees producing elho honey!
