"Wellness in Nature”, “Kids Garden”, “Flower Power”, “My Tiny Coffee Shop” and “City Gardening” – these are the themes of the POS Green Solution Islands at this year's spoga+gafa. Have a look and get inspired!
The POS Green Solution Islands offer concrete proposals for the design of campaign and sales areas in garden centres, DIY stores or other retail outlets. The focus here is on cross-selling. "We recommend the trade to not only offer different commodity groups in the respective departments, but also mix and present them together them in a meaningful way on specific POS areas," said Oliver Mathys, who also curated the Green Solution Islands at the world's largest garden fair this year too. As a marketing and sales consultant, he develops sales concepts and supports companies with the implementation thereof.
Plants, furniture, pots, grills, garden tools and deco items - if one unites different products to form a coherent overall picture, one arouses the interest and buying impulse of the customers," the Dutch industry expert said. The POS Green Solution Islands at spoga+gafa demonstrate how this can be done on a surface measuring six times six metres. Mathys: "To ensure successful cross-selling it is always important that one chooses a theme that is relevant for the consumers for the surface design."

The theme "Kids Garden" is about playing and having fun, but also about gaining experience and devouring fresh berries directly from the bush. "To a certain extent the area is a mixture between a playground and a garden," explained Mathys. "We are presenting all outdoor playing equipment and deco items suitable for children in combination with berry bushes, herbs and mini varieties of vegetables. Bee-friendly plants are also on board, which allows children to study insects in the garden and means they can also turn into small nature researchers themselves."

Bulb flowers are the central theme of the POS Green Solution Island "Flower Power". "This attractive plant group is attracting a lot of attention again and is also very popular among young consumers," the marketing and sales consultant explained. "This is why we are focus on this theme on this exhibition space. We are presenting the plants as bushes, but also in pots. Among other things, we will also be demonstrating the so-called lasagne technique. This special plant method involves the implementation of different bulb flowers to achieve the longest possible blooming periods." The island is divided up into two equally sized sections: One side is more a source of inspiration for the specialised trade, the other side serves as a role model for large surfaces.
Gardening without a garden is the key theme of spoga+gafa 2019: That is of course why "City Gardening" simply can't be missing from the POS Green Solution Islands. "Colourful balcony and terrace worlds with begonias, dahlias, perennials, but also herbs and vegetables are presented on this area," explained Mathys. "Combined with different, new, creative products that were developed by the spoga+gafa exhibitors especially for living in the small, green city oases." The theme island is divided up into two sections: The smaller of the two is designed in Nordic style, whilst the larger area displays Southern flair. Mathys: "The different sizes were important to us because we also want to give dealers, who don't have as much design space at the POS at their disposal, an idea of how they can address such a theme in spite of this."

Wellness in Nature
The theme island "Wellness in Nature" was inspired by a trend from Japan, which allows nature to be experienced close up again even in big cities so one can immerse oneself in it. A surface spanning 36 square metres is planted with heather, birches, ivy, ferns... reproducing a Northern German landscape. Products from the wellness range fit in wonderfully with sales space designed in this way. "This POS Green Solution island is my personal favourite this year," said Mathys. "One has to imagine being a big city where the customers come back from the hectic and office stress and are suddenly confronted with a piece of nature. In my opinion, this concept can also be excellently implemented as a type of pop-up store."
Living with Plants: My Tiny Coffee Shop

The theme "Living with Plants" has already been realised in a wide range of ways in the scope of the POS Green Solution Islands over the past years. Here, the emphasis lies on the added value of room plants. It is scientifically proven that certain plants filter pollutants in the air particularly effectively. A Dutch garden group specialises in their production and sells them under the name Air So Pure. These plants form the basis for the island this time. "This year we have opted for an additional subtitle for the design: My Tiny Coffee Shop," said Mathys. "We have created a small café situation, which enables the specialised trade to show its customers from the food service sector how they can integrate plants into guest rooms in a modern way. Edible potted plants and herbs also play a role here. For example a mint plant is placed on the table so that the guests can cut off the leaves directly to make a cup of tea. Such a café could of course be installed as part of a garden centre. What's more, the visitors should be able to purchase the exhibited plants directly too."
Once again, the POS Green Solution Islands are found at the spoga+gafa in a central location on the Boulevard and in the Passage between Halls 4 and 5.
Plant trend themes are the focal point of the POS Green Solution Islands at spoga+gafa. They are both sources of inspiration and examples of implementation for the home, garden and activity areas. The areas are always created in such a way that they can be perfectly integrated into the normal campaign areas of garden centres and DIY stores.find out more
