Late summer and fall are the perfect times for exciting outdoor activities. In addition to classic hiking, there is now a wide variety of recreational experiences and trendy sports to enjoy in the great outdoors. Modern gear is designed to provide greater comfort and safety while on the go. As a result, there is high demand for lightweight, space-saving solutions as well as smart products with as many features as possible.

A growing market with high standards

Whether it’s camping, hiking, climbing, or biking—the market for outdoor adventures is growing. Shared experiences in nature, a break from everyday life, and athletic challenges are what make these leisure activities so appealing. But as demand for nature-based activities rises, so do the demands placed on equipment. Outdoor adventures have specific requirements—and not just because they depend on the weather. Anyone preparing for their next outdoor adventure wants to pack products that are as sturdy and versatile as possible, yet take up as little space and weigh as little as possible—products they can rely on in every way.

Safe comfort outdoors

Purchasing decisions regarding outdoor gear are therefore increasingly influenced by factors such as compact design, ergonomic details, and versatile functionality. To make the most of their time in the great outdoors, customers want well-thought-out solutions that are easy to use. In addition to greater comfort, safety and risk prevention are also key considerations. The gear should be clearly organized, quickly accessible, and easy to transport, while taking up as little space as possible. It should aid in communication and navigation, as well as provide protection from the elements and unexpected situations.

More than camping

Another trend in the outdoor gear sector is microadventures that take place right on your doorstep. Classic camping products are increasingly designed to be suitable for everyday use. “The biggest change is that much of this gear is no longer sold exclusively for camping purposes,” says Bryan Nelson, Chief Operating Officer at the U.S. manufacturer Westfield Outdoors. To offer the same level of comfort in the immediate surroundings as at home, products for on-the-go use are becoming simpler, more comfortable, and more convenient.

Smart outdoor gadgets

Today, gadgets such as smartphones and smartwatches designed specifically for outdoor use are available to help with navigation and connectivity in nature. They are particularly powerful, rugged, and weatherproof, and offer navigation, communication, and emergency lighting while on the go. Foldable solar panels or a high-capacity, solar-powered portable power bank ensure a continuous power supply in the great outdoors. Even the classic camping lantern can now serve as a charging station with a digital display showing the battery level.

Kitchen alternatives on the go

Sharing a meal outdoors is one of the best parts of outdoor trips. Clever solutions make cooking more convenient when you’re on the go. Mobile gas grills use new technology to provide more heat faster, opening up a wider range of cooking options. Passive coolers require no electricity at all; they can keep drinks and food cool for several days and double as seating. Water bottles with filter cartridges that remove bacteria or portable water purifiers are practical for remote routes.

Traveling light

When traveling in a camper or RV, space-saving storage of gear is an important aspect of trip planning. Size-adjustable equipment boxes made of ultra-lightweight plastic can therefore be customized to store camping gear and cookware. Foldable camping furniture is tailored to the packing dimensions of specific camper models, allowing for optimal storage. For those with limited storage space, there are particularly space-saving innovations, such as a cooler with a folding mechanism that can be folded down to one-third of its original size.

Adventure area as an outdoor trip

The recent spoga+gafa also demonstrated how new gear innovations enhance microadventures and outdoor experiences. A highlight and major draw at the international trade show for garden lifestyle and BBQ was the “Outdoor Adventure” special exhibition. Products for outdoor adventures weren’t simply displayed here—they were atmospherically staged. A program of presentations offered a wide range of ideas for retailers and product lines, POS inspiration, and networking opportunities. This successful format will return at the upcoming spoga+gafa from June 15 to 17, 2027—because the trend toward outdoor adventure shows no signs of slowing down.
