In summer, city residents are drawn back outdoors. Every tiny outdoor space is used for relaxing in the open air. Exhibitors of spoga+gafa are offering new furniture and accessories for City Gardening.

Growing desire for outdoor oases

Especially in cities, outdoor areas are gaining in importance. With the increasing population and densification also the desire for places of retreat from the hectic everyday life grows. Balconies, roof terraces and allotments are transformed into green open-air oases, while more and more cafés and restaurants offer their guests outdoor areas for a relaxed get-together. Innovations for the furnishing of city balconies or small gardens and terraces are therefore very popular.

The upcoming spoga + gafa will show how outdoor areas with little space can be created with a feel-good ambience. Many of the exhibitors who will be presenting their new products in Cologne from 1 to 3 September will be dedicated to the subject of City Gardening with special furniture and collections. Series with names like "City Outdoor" or "Urban Jungle" offer a large selection of furniture designs for small outdoor spaces. The special feature: with their compact dimensions and a multifunctional design, these collections allow variable use for limited space. Tables and sofas for city use can be unfolded and folded, flexibly set up or stowed away well. Wall shelves or vertical planting systems allow the greening of smallest areas.

Homely flair thanks to new textiles

Newly developed and particularly weather-resistant textiles provide for the homely design on urban outdoor spaces. Sofas, armchairs and cushions not only withstand rain showers, but are just as comfortable as the indoor variants for the living room. The new balcony rugs, which are made of special durable materials for outdoor use, originally came from there. The range of designs and colours for these products is now just as large as the range of outdoor-suitable pile. Even soft high-pile carpets are now available for outdoor use.

In general, coziness is very popular in the design of open-air oases. Decorative elements such as fireplaces, vases or lanterns make every roof terrace a relaxing island with atmosphere. Especially for younger city dwellers, lightweight and mobile furniture is very popular for sitting at ground level. Beanbags or poufs made of waterproof textiles are suitable for various places and positions to relax. Side tables or plant pots with integrated LEDs provide the right lighting mood. Newer models can be controlled via app from the smartphone. Even sun protection today offers clever solutions for limited external surfaces such as city balconies or small gardens.

The complete spectrum of new products for the garden will be presented at the upcoming spoga+gafa - in a diversity that is unique worldwide. Whether it comes down to new furniture or plant trends, the latest technology for the garden or up-to-date barbecue equipment: The trade fair covers the entire offer of the industry at a glance.
